DESCRIPTION

Honjō Masamune is one of the best known swords created by Masamune, and is believed to be among the finest Japanese swords ever made.The sword was a symbol of the Tokugawa Shogunate. The Japanese government declared Honjo Masamune an official Japanese treasure.At the end of the WW II, the U.S. Army demanded that all Japanese citizens turn over their weapons, including their swords. It was after this time that the sword was lost and became a legend.

My goal for this project was to recreate this lost legendary blade as a game ready weapon. I didn't have any specific reference, since none such exists. I instead delved deep into japanese blades, learned how they were made, how they were different in certain eras and the story and facts behind this legend. I tried to find as much information about it as possible, but ultimately I created it according to my view.

This pack contains 2 variations of the model. One is Straight blade and one is Curved blade.

There are also alpha mask textures included that are used to change the colors of the decorative parts and the cloth. You can see example variants in the screenshots.

Model was created in Blender with good topology and optimized polycount in mind. Textures were created in Substance Painter and are fully PBR with resolution up to 4K.

The handle is wrapped in red or purple fabric and the hilt of the blade is copper or gold. The katana blade has a typical folded steel pattern but unique to Masamune's work.

  • Textures are available in 4k, 2k, and 1k resolution for both PBR Metallic/Roughness and Specular/Glossiness workflows also with Directx and OpenGL normal maps. I’ve also included textures optimized for Unreal Engine 4 and Unity 3D

Do not buy this .stl file if you are planning to 3D print. The actual size of the sword in the file is 1.2mm x 0.13 mm x 0.08mm in the Creality software (yes, mm, not cm!). When the sword is scaled up, there are none of the details mentioned here in the description.
