LORE:

Created during the War of Greed, this weapon system was meant to be a striking lance in the hands of the Empire, bringing revenge for a treacherous corporate attack. The “Maelstrom” is an array of six 200mm cannons that fire auto-loaded projectiles in succession, creating an endless stream of pure destruction to anyone on the other side of the guns. The first weapon in its spinal mounted class, this weapon module became the main battery for the very first Destroyer in history: the “Vengeance”, which later gave rise to the class of ships of the same name.An interesting fact was that this weapon did not fulfill the task for which it was generally built into the Vengeance. Namely, the destruction of the headquarters of the Corporate Alliance conspirators, the Hephaestus mobile mega-factory. Of course, during operation “Knockout”, the Destroyer successfully scored some hits, including several of the infamous Sabertooth-class frigates, literally tearing them apart with heavy fire from its main battery. Seeing this and realizing the obvious collapse of their undertaking, the rebellious Directors were forced to flee the “Hephaestus”, and the remaining corporates, abandoned by their superiors, soon admitted defeat and surrendered to the mercy of the winners, fearing to repeat the fate of their now burning fleet. However, few people know that the same weapon installed on the Vengeance was the only prototype at that time. During the battle, due to a minor miscalculation in the ammunition supply system, it jammed. So even if the corporates had not surrendered, the Empire would still not be able to use this gun against the mega-factory. And although this technical flaw was later corrected, a joke began to circulate in the fleet directed to the crews of ships with the Maelstrom installed: So which gun is loaded first?
