Original review:
For this kind of price I expected a lot more ...
First of all the positives:
The modeling quality is very good. The topology is great and it has lots of detail. From a distance it looks like this model would be great for close-up renders that need a lot of detail.
And then come the negative parts:
I haven't tried this in 3ds Max so maybe everything is fine there, but when I imported this into Blender the scale was completely off. Also everything was connected into one mesh, so there was no grouping or labeling as the owner said and no separate pivots. Okay, not a big deal — those things can be fixed relatively easily. Then I tried importing the original textures and I realized that it doesn’t have baked PBR maps, just one tileable wood texture (diffuse + roughness) and then a couple of image textures for details. That means if you want different materials (like the gold parts), you have to manually select those vertices, assign them the materials, and repeat that for every separate material.
And it gets better, because the entire model isn’t even correctly UV mapped. So if you want to use PBR materials for other parts of the model (like the gold and silver parts for better realism), then you have to do all of that yourself. I assume the owner used basic metallic shaders for their renders, so UVs weren’t a problem there. Just something to look out for if you need more control and need this to be photorealistic. Out of the blue, this model definitely isn’t ready for photorealistic close-up renders and it still requires a lot of cleanup and retouching.
Maybe I misunderstood, but it seemed like this model should be ready for photorealistic renders and even close-ups. As of now I am very disappointed with the quality (especially the materials, or lack thereof) this offered. It certainly isn’t worth that high price tag. Still, I assume many of these problems are fixed if you use 3ds Max, but for everyone else it doesn’t seem worth it at all.
