DESCRIPTION

What is this model?

This model is based on a real life metal bottle I own and use regularly. This model itself is in three separate pieces,

  • The main bottle itself,
  • The lid and a plastic protector, located at the bottom of the lid, unseen when the lid is on, but can be seen when it's off.
  • The Lid is parented to the bottle and the protector is parented to the lid, so any movement of the bottle can be easily achieved

While this product is a single colour (as seen in the model file), others colors can be bought separately, as separate files, or be brought as one 8 colour package (see Portable Steel Drink Bottle - All ). These colours included:

  • Blue
  • Red
  • Green
  • Pink
  • Yellow
  • Brown
  • Gray

Why is it worth buying it?

Unlike other larger scale models in my collection or models from the worlds of Doctor Who, unlike using photo references, I actually based this object on one that I physically own, a metal bottle I got from a cruise a number of years ago. By having the object in front of me, I was able to look at everything associated with it, from the small details of the lid to larger details like the bottle itself. This ensures, like my other models, I ensured it looked and felt as real as possible, specifically in dimensions and the material textures I used whether it was viewed up close or from a distance.

The key to making it this realistic, is to not only have some realistic poly count, but include a number of smaller and less noticeable additions. These additions style using nodes include:

  • Scratches,
  • Dirt/mud,
  • Bumps/Imperfections

One of the major factors you should buy is that I provide two versions in Blender,

  • Procedural texturing (using Principled BSDF with multiple tree nodes) and
  • Baked texturing using 4K baked textures (all in separate folder - see below for more details),

I do this to ensure you have the choice that you feel comfortable with, whether you love the model but want to make small changes to the overall textures using the nodes provided to suit your project needs, or leave the baked textures in place where you can use the model in your project as is.

In addition to this, if you don't have blender, this project contains various project file formats to use in various other 3D Programs and these details can be seen below

One key thing to remember, and I believe this part of the reason you should purchase this, is that this TARDIS is real life to scale, and not a small toy size. So when working on your fan projects, please keep this in mind as the small details seen here are key to its realism

How can it be used?

This product is a simple but handy steel bottle that can be used either as a background prop or a prop used by a character or be placed in any scene that suits your needs, be that small or large, whether it's in the background or a major part of the scene.

*How the file system works and what is contained within *

Within the downloadable folder/s, I have included two different blender folders, one indicating its procedural and the other baked.

Within the Procedural Zip Folder ([COLOUR]_Procedural_Texturing or Bottles_Procedural) you will find a file called ([COLOUR]_Steel_Drink_Bottle_Procedural) all the textures/materials are included, using a wide variety of procedural nodes. This will mean you can modify any of these nodes, to suit your own preferred taste/style specific to your own project needs. This Blender file will suit any level of experience as the node layout is quite simple and easy to follow.

However, for those who want the ease and comfort of downloading the file without worrying about making changes, all the textures are baked within a separate folder called textures with each texture containing at least 4 different texture layers in 4K (4096 x 4096).

These include:

  • BaseColor
  • Metalness
  • Normal and
  • Roughness

Each object/part within this project, their four texture layers (as mentioned above) are contained in their own folder. These objects below are the folder names and include:

  • Lid Protector
  • Steel Bottle
  • Steel Bottle Lid

The Blender file within the baked texture folder (Bottle_Baked_COLOUR or Bottle Baked) contains these baked materials as .png files. This can be found under the Blender File (COLOUR_Steel_Drink_Bottle_Baked_Materials). To use correctly just download the texture ZIP file, (included within are separate material/texture folders with the names closely matching to the different objects within the blender/other file).

As well as these two folders which are suited for blender users, I have also contained a separate folder for those who prefer to use other 3D programs. This folder is called Other Files. With this zip folder contains:

  • FBX
  • OBJ
  • GLB
  • STL
  • PLY

No unsupported objects
Unsupported objects:
- Lights
- Cameras

Geometry
No N-gons
N-gons are polygons with five or more sides which might cause issues in certain processes like rendering or animation. Learn more
No faceted geometry
Faceted geometry uses flat surfaces without smoothing, which can look unrealistic on curves.
Learn more
Manifold geometry
Manifold geometry ensures all surfaces are properly connected, avoiding issues like edges shared by more than two faces.

Textures & material
PBR textures
PBR textures simulate how light interacts with materials, making the model look realistic under different lighting.
Required PBR textures:
- Base Color
- Roughness
- Metalness
- Normal
Learn more
No embed textures
Embedded textures are stored inside the model file, increasing its size and sometimes causing compatibility issues.
Learn more
Square textures
Texture aspect ratio is the width-to-height ratio of a texture. Expected texture aspect ratio: 1:1
Learn more
Power of 2 texture sizes
Textures with dimensions in power of two (e.g. 512x512px, 1024x1024px) are used to optimize performance and memory usage.
Learn more
Assigned materials
Materials are applied to the 3D model to allow visualize a model's surface properties and appearance.
Learn more
UVs & naming
No UV overlaps
UVs overlap when multiple points on the 3D model's surface are mapped to the same point on the UV island causing texture stretching.
Learn more
UV unwrapped model
A UV unwrapped model means its 3D surface is flattened into 2D space, allowing textures to be applied accurately.
