Historical Background
Zhao Yun (courtesy name Zilong, from Changshan, present-day Zhengding, Hebei) was a renowned general of Shu Han during the Three Kingdoms period. Celebrated for unmatched bravery and unwavering loyalty, his most famous feat was the “Seven Entries and Seven Exits” at the Battle of Changban, where he fought alone to rescue his lord’s infant son.
In Chinese history and literature, Zhao Yun stands as a paragon of loyalty, courage, and martial excellence.
In later culture, he is honored as one of the great heroes of the Three Kingdoms, second only to Guan Yu in fame.
His legend not only remains deeply rooted in Chinese households but has also spread across East Asia and the world through the classic Romance of the Three Kingdoms.
