Anubis, known as Inpew, Yinepu, or Anpu, is an ancient Egyptian god associated with the underworld and mummification. He is depicted as a man with the head of a jackal or a dog, specifically resembling the Egyptian jackal or the Pharaoh Hound. Anubis's primary role was as the protector of graves and the guide for the dead. He presided over the embalming process and was believed to protect the dead and their tombs. He also weighed the heart of the deceased against the feather of Ma'at (truth) to determine their fate in the afterlife. Although Osiris eventually replaced him as the god of the dead, Anubis remained a key figure in funerary practices and rituals.
