Kunming Medical University, located in Kunming City, Yunnan Province, abbreviated as Kunming Medical University, is under the jurisdiction of the Yunnan Provincial Department of Education. It is the largest higher medical institution in Yunnan Province that integrates teaching, medical care, and scientific research. It is a key construction university of the national Central and Western University Basic Capacity Building Project and a first-class discipline construction university in Yunnan. It has been selected as a pilot of the Ministry of Education's Excellent Doctor Education and Training Program and a national level university student innovation and entrepreneurship training program. It is also an international medical talent training base in Yunnan Province, one of the first universities to recruit Chinese government scholarship students, and a founding member of the South Asia Southeast Asia Medical Education and Health Alliance. As of December 2024, the school has established stable exchange and cooperation relationships with over 90 universities and research institutions in more than 30 countries, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan. It is one of the four universities in China that offers French medical education. Initiated the establishment of the South Asia Southeast Asia Medical Education and Healthcare Alliance, consisting of 56 universities and medical institutions from China and 13 countries in South Asia and Southeast Asia, becoming an important platform for promoting exchanges and cooperation between the country, Yunnan, and South Asia and Southeast Asia in the fields of medical education and healthcare. Cooperate with Mahidol University in Thailand to organize a nursing undergraduate program for joint education. There are 61 countries of origin for international students, making it the only institution in Yunnan approved by the Ministry of Education for undergraduate clinical medicine (taught in English, MBBS) for international students studying in China. It is also the first institution in Yunnan Province to pass the Ministry of Education's quality certification and re certification for studying in China.
