The concept of the Material Composition developed organically from Stephen's interest in the readymades of Marcel Duchamp. Through the artist's intention, a flower pot becomes a pedestal for the white Rope Vase supported by a colorful Senegalese personal storage basket signifying a crown. Although this piece has no traditional function, it's cultural and decorative value are priceless. Prototyped and developed as part of the Studio Museum exhibition, Stephen Burks Man Made, 2011.
