Classic column Corinthian high poly

Classic column Corinthian high poly 3D model

Description

This is a classic (ancient Greek) Corinthian column created with 3ds max. It's highly accurate and the product of many years of personal study and experience of historical architectural styles. The model has a high polygon count and is intended for production foreground shots and is ready to be subdivided in order to achieve an even greater level of detail (for close up shots etc). The texture provided is a generic marble texture which can be substituted for any other but also the model can be very easily texture mapped again using cylindrical mapping . It has been tested with various other textures, both clean and ageing/grungy and works really well with very little tweaking. The model can also benefit greatly with a soft edges map/shader of around 0.5cm (such as VrayEdgesTex map in the bump channel or the round corners option in Mental Ray Arch & Design material).

If needed, the model can also be optimised/decimated to lower the poly count substantially using standard modifiers and tools in 3dsMax and other industry standard 3d applications.

A low poly game-ready version is in the works.

This is fantastic. how long did it take to generate and if you had to draw a custom Corinthian how much time would it estimate for you to create a capital? I ask about the capital because the rest is fairly straight forward.

Thanks for the kind words. This was a personal project so it took quite a bit of time, especially to research the Greek architectural rhythms. The actuall modeling took about a week but of I did it again I estimate it would take no more than a couple of days.

I am having a debate with several other people about AutoCAD and other tools in computer systems being used for design rather than production work. I am of the stance but you can design things look at custom Corinthian column much faster by hand then you can in the computer. my original model I built in 1998 took about the same time and it was not nearly as complicated.
