Pan's Labyrinth (El laberinto del fauno) is a Hispano-Mexican1 fantasy film written, produced and directed by Guillermo del Toro, released in 2006.

The film takes place a little after the war of Spain and its main character, the young Ofelia, sees itself designated by a fauna like the princess of an underground world. She must pass three tests to regain it while her pregnant mother is increasingly ill and her stepfather, the cruel Captain Vidal, is tracking down the anti-Franco guerrillas in the region.

The story is a parable inspired by fairy tales in which del Toro explores themes he had already mentioned in L'Échine du Diable (2001). The French and English translations of the film's title refer to the god Pan but del Toro clarified that these translations were inaccurate and that the film's fauna had nothing to do with Pan2.

Shot in the Sierra de Guadarrama in 2005, the film was presented for the first time at the 2006 Cannes festival and was very well received by the public and the critics. He has won numerous awards, including three Cinema Oscars and the Hugo prize for best film.
