The Hawker Hurricane was a British fighter aircraft developed in the mid 1930s for the Royal Air Force and used extensively during the Second World War. It was operated by the Royal Air Force and in large numbers by the allies during the war. It was used during the battle of Britain and in every theater of operations during the war. The aircraft was easier and less expensive that the Supermarine Spitfire and helped the RAF get the numbers of fighters it needed with the limited manufacturing resources available. It was powered by a RR Merlin V-12, almost identical to the engine in a Spitfire. More than 15000 were produced and used during the war. Hundreds remain airworthy all over the world.
