A blender file with a 3D mesh of a caterpillar I originally modeled with Softimage|XSI. This is a medium polygon modeling, optimized for Catmull-Clark subdivision rule. It may be a good starting base for both low or high poly modeling of any kind of caterpillar.

It comes with a vertex color map and a basic SSS shader. You'll also find a proxy version of the body and a tree branch.
