Winner Announced for 2019 CGTrader Scholarship Challenge!
The results of the 2019 CGTrader Scholarship Challenge are in. Students from all over the world were challenged to write an essay on the topic of “The Future of Real-World Environment with Augmented Reality. ” Eligibility requirements were:
- Minimum 2.5 GPA
- Must be high school senior, undergraduate or graduate student;
- Enrolled full-time in an academic institution Jan 1, 2019 – December 31, 2019.
In the end, 600 students participated! The essays we received were thought-provoking and very creative but only one can be chosen to win the 1 st Place Prize of a $2000 scholarship.

One Million Dollars Saved in New WWII Film Production Using Stock 3D Models
The new feature film “Dauntless – the Battle of Midway” was created using 150 different stock 3D models purchased from the CGTrader Marketplace – saving an estimated one million US dollars in production costs. This is truly remarkable example of the advantages of using photorealistic stock 3D content in film and animation production.
Michael Swack from the CGTrader Blog caught up with Bayou Pictures owner and VFX producer Mike Phillips in Los Angeles at SIGGRAPH 2019 to discuss the role 3D content played in the film.
