The Type 3 Maru Yu was a class of Imperial Japanese Army transport submarines (officially Type 3 submergence transport vehicles) designed to supply island garrisons during World War II. Of the planned 400+ vessels, only 38 were completed, with 34 scrapped postwar. These submarines primarily transported 24 tons of cargo or 40 troops and were equipped with deck guns but not torpedoes.
