Waldorf Astoria

Waldorf Astoria 3D print model

Description

The Waldorf Astoria is a 625ft (191m) tall skyscraper in New York City. Occupying an entire block in the heart of Midtown East, this enormous building has earned its fame being one of the world's largest and most prestigious hotels. The building is the second iteration of the Waldorf Astoria. The original was the combination of 2 competing hotels, the Waldorf and the Astoria, both named the elite Astor family real estate developer William Waldorf Astor. The original hotel buildings from the late 19th century were torn down in 1929 and were replaced by the Empire State Building. A few blocks North and East on Park Avenue rose the much larger and taller art deco skyscraper that stands today. Its unique design is the work of Schultze and Weaver, completed in 1931. Famous guests and residents include musical stars, military generals, foreign heads of state, and US Presidents.

Because this building is particularly large, there are 2 methods to printing it. One file (WaldorfAstoriaComplete.stl) contains the entire building in one mesh. The other method is to print it in 2 pieces (WaldorfAstoriaBase.stl and WaldorfAstoriaTower.stl), separated at the point where the base meets the tower portion around the 20th floor. This allows for the building to be printed in larger scales, higher detail, or to simply be broken into 2 shorter printing sessions as opposed to one very long session.
