DESCRIPTION

This Goddess Chamunda head was found in Vidisha, India and was originally sculpted in 10th Century AD.

Goddess Chamunda is a deity of Kalikula ( fierce/untamed forms of Adi Shakti). Devi Chamunda is highly revered by Shakts who are Kaulmargi ( left-hand Shakta practitioners). She is believed to be the goddess of death and lives in crematoriums. She is called 'Pret-vahana' (ghoul rider) because her divine mount is a Pret ( ghoul).

Devotees worship her either to win over the fear of death or to seek protection from untimely death from factors such as epidemic, drought, wars etc.Devi Chamunda looks scary to people who have sights corrupted by human standards of beauty and ugliness.
