Ender 5 GT X - Y Conversion

Ender 5 GT X - Y Conversion 3D print model

Description

Update 05.05.2020:

  • Added a cableboom

Update 24.12.2019:

  • Added various info to the description

Update 23.12.2019:

  • Added a lot more pictures and the originally missing y endstop holder
  • Added a simple reverse bowden coupling holder ( Makes it easier to feed Filament )

First of all, this is in beta, there might be smaller changes to it along the way.

This is my personal take on the Ender 5, the conversion sheds a ton of weight ( Including getting rid of all the default metal roller plates and the default 20x20 cross beam ) and results in a beast of a printer, easily outpacing custom direct extruder CoreXY builds.

Print settings:

0.3 PETG, print slow enough that the petg properly fuses

Parts:

  • 2 Pcs 400mm MGN12H
  • 1 Pc 450mm MGN12H
  • 1 Pc 40x40x10 Aluminum heatsink for the X Stepper
  • 1 pc BMG + Pancake stepper clone ( https://bit.ly/34TO7kw )
  • Extension cabling for the hotend, i used 12x0.5 Oelflex stranded wiring. ( https://amzn.to/2EMiuyQ )
  • SKR mini E3 1.2 board is advisable due to noise levels, but the standard board can ( surprisingly ) keep up aswell ( https://bit.ly/2MoHIHM )
  • 3 pcs 20 teeth 5mm bore idlers for 6mm GT2 belts ( https://bit.ly/2PT5TjR )
  • Various M3 and M5 bolts to assemble ( Up to 45mm M3 ! )
  • Raspi ( Atleast 3b Model ) for klipper
  • 1m GT2 6mm belt, to original x belt ist to short unfortunately ( https://bit.ly/396AoKy )

Screws and hardware:

  • M3 T Slot nuts ( Linear rail to Ender frame )
  • M5 T Slot nuts ( Y Idler to linear rail to Ender frame )

  • 4x M3 Nuts

  • 4x M5 Nuts

  • M3 washers

  • M5 washers

  • 2x M3x15 Hex Head ( Y Endstop mount )

  • 4x M3x10 Panhead ( Extruder Nema mount )

  • 4x M3x35 Hex Head ( Extruder Nema mount )

  • 4x M3x45 Hex Head ( Y belt / X Rail mount )

  • 4x M3x8 Hex Head ( X Motor mount )

  • 4x M3x25 Hex Head ( X to Y mounts )

  • 4x M3x12 Panhead ( X to Y mounts )

  • 1x M5x35 Hex Head ( X idler holder )

  • 2x M5x40 Hex Head ( Y idler holder )

  • 3x M5x16 Hex Head ( Idler spanners Idler gear holder )

  • 6x M4x25 Hex Head ( Idler spanners / tilt adjust )

Hints:

  • The provided klipper config.txt is for an skr mini e3 1.2 and dials in the stepper to usable heat / power / steps / mm outputs for this machine and has several features like bed mesh leveling and M81 prepared.
  • The mounting plate for the extruder screws right into the pancakes stepper front plate, youll need to unscrew the stepper itself to mount it.
  • You will need a carbide tipped 5mm drill bit to drill through the mgn rail for the y idlers if it is of any respectable quality.
  • For hotend cooling use either this: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4058403 or if you want to use the stock parts: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3434018
  • Mandatory bed braces: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3447280
  • You can use this https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4017068 To enable the preconfigured bed meshing

You can build the mod with 9mm wide belts aswell, if you attempt so please contact me so i can alter the idler holders to fit 12mm idlers in there.

Even though the build itself is rather painless i would advise only seasoned 3D printers to attemp it.

Depending on feedback ill add more info here.

So getting ready to print the components and it looks like the main components are all grouped in a single STL. Can you provide the individual pieces as I want to rotate some of the parts to minimize supports. There is a piece that is not on the same plane as all the others. It is floating so when slicing it there is now a raft like support that if the piece was even with the others would not be needed

I just fixed this ! You can explode the plate in various slicers aswell to print them individually.

Can't wait to try this out! Suggestion for the parts list if you could make a BOM with links would be awesome.
