The koala (Phascolarctos cinereus) is a herbivorous marsupial native to Australia and is the only living member of the family Phascolarctidae, and its closest living relative is the wombat. The koala is found along the eastern and southern coasts of the mainland, specifically in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia. It is about 60–85 cm (24–33 in) in length and weighs 4–15 kg (9–33 lb). Its coat colour ranges from silvery grey to chocolate brown. Koalas in northern populations are generally smaller and lighter in colour than those in the south.
