David Jon Gilmour is an English singer, guitarist, and songwriter, best known as the lead singer and guitarist for the British art-rock band Pink Floyd. He joined the band in 1967, shortly after the departure of founding member Syd Barrett. Gilmour is known for his bluesy style and improvised guitar solos that feature sustained notes. He's also known for his solo work. Gilmour and Barrett met as children in Cambridge and played guitar together.
