Gryphon is a saber wielded by Shanks as his main weapon. Gryphon is a longer than average saber with a long green hilt and a circular beige guard, as well as a wide and thin guard around the hilt. Shanks keeps it in a blue sheathe on his right hip, even though he wields it with his right arm; although, this could be because he lost his possible-dominant left arm. Though its origins and rank are unknown, Gryphon is quite powerful and durable, being capable of clashing with Edward Newgate's Murakumogiri, and (presumably) Dracule Mihawk's Yoru, both of which are of the 12 Supreme Grade swords. After being imbued with Busoshoku Haki, it could block Sakazuki's magma punch without being damaged. Shanks can also coat Gryphon in a fiery aura and use it against his enemies.
