What am I selling

These files contain four 3D Blender files (2 rigged and two static models) of one of the Doctor's best friends, K9, from the BBC TV Series Doctor Who. K9 was primarily seen during the later half of the 1970s, but made appearances during the 1980s and 2000s.

K9 is a robotic, intelligent and futuristic dog who is loved amongst fans, being seen as an important character in the show's history.

Why did I do this model

As a fan of Doctor Who, the Doctor has confronted monsters and all sorts of villains over the years, but he has also had gadgets and trusted friends/companions. Some of them I have included in my 3D collections here on CGTrader, including The TARDIS, Sonic Screwdriver, Daleks (Three versions - 1960s, Classic and Modern), and now one of the Doctor's best friends, K9.

As K9 is a robotic dog, it should act like a robotic asset, so I decided to create my first rig character. These K9 files contain a very simple to use rig. The rig controllers include:

  • Whole Model movement (X and Y direction)
  • Tail movement (X,Y,Z Rotation)
  • Head (Rotation Constraints Y: -10 and 10 degrees)
  • Ears (Rotation Constraints Z: -10 and 10 degrees)
  • K9 Ray Gun (Note: For best results, use NORMAL control settings)
  • Head Antenna (Note: For movement, see K9 Ray Gun)

Please Note: As this is my first rig in Blender, it may not be perfect, so I have also included K9 that is not rigged. If you have any issues please let me know, so I can improve on this and any future rigs. Thanks

How the file works

Within the downloadable folder/s, I have included two different blender files. One of these files (v01_01_K9_Procedural_Texturing and v01_01_K9_Procedural_Texturing_Rigged) all the textures/materials are included, using a wide variety of procedural nodes. This will mean you can modify any of these nodes, to suit your own preferred taste/style specific to your own project needs. This Blender file will suit any level of experience as the node layout is quite simple and easy to follow.

However, for those who want the ease and comfort of downloading the file without worrying about making changes, all the textures are baked as .png files. This can be found under the Blender File (v01_01_K9_Baked_Texturing and v01_01_K9_Baked_Texturing_Rigged). To use, correctly just download the texture ZIP file, (included within are separate material/texture folders with the names closely matching to the different objects within the blender/other file).
