This is a 5 Uruguayan pesos coin from 2008.On the obverse (left side): The profile of José Artigas with the inscription REPUBLICA ORIENTAL DEL URUGUAY around the edge. José Artigas is considered the father of Uruguayan independence and is a national hero.On the reverse (right side): The denomination 5 with a dollar sign ($) and the text CINCO PESOS URUGUAYOS (Five Uruguayan Pesos), along with the year 2008 at the bottom.The coin appears to be made of a brass or bronze alloy, giving it a golden-yellow color. It seems to be in relatively good condition with some signs of circulation wear.The Uruguayan peso (UYU) is the official currency of Uruguay, and this 5 pesos coin was part of the country's monetary system. By 2008, when this coin was minted, the Uruguayan peso had gone through several currency reforms since the original peso was introduced in the 19th century.This particular coin is from the peso uruguayo series introduced in 1993, which replaced the old new peso at a rate of 1,000 new pesos to 1 peso uruguayo.
