The bust representing Princess Ehendia, an esteemed figure in Benin society. Princess Ehendia was the eldest daughter of Oba Adolor and half-sister to Oba Ovonramwen. Known for her resilience and strong will, she was originally married to Chief Edo, the Iyase-N’Oduhobo. After his death, she chose to live independently in Ivbizua quarters, rejecting numerous suitors including the powerful Chief Igiebor. Her story, marked by her refusal to remarry and the tragic murder of her lover Amayo, highlights her strength and the complexities of love and power in Benin culture. The bust captures her regal presence and historical significance.
