DESCRIPTION

Name: Lepidodendron Scale Tree

Scientific: Lepidodendron obovatum (Ledidodendron aculeatum also available from EVERYPlant)

This Variation: 2 of 4. This is a High Poly model. A Low Poly version is also available.

Notes: Extinct tree-sized, tree-like plant from the Carboniferous Period to the late Permian (about 360 to 205 million years ago). Though superficially it resembled a tree, this plant was most closely related to modern quillworts, meaning it wasn't a true tree. As it grew its central stem eventually split into exactly two branches, and then each branch further split into exactly two more as the plant continued to mature; further dichotomical branching occured until the plant reached full maturity. At the ends of its branches were oval-shaped cones. As the plant grew it shed its lower leaves which resulted in the scar-pattern found on its stem and branches giving it its name of 'scale tree'. Fossils have been found extensively throughout the world suggesting it had a global reach.

Included in this Package: 12 models in total

  1. Standard -- 95,331 polygons, 144,855 vertices -- 36.02m tall. Green, fully mature and in good health. Useable in most scenes.
  2. Thriving -- 95,822 polygons, 144,986 vertices -- 36.02m tall. Peak health.
  3. Unhealthy -- 84,614 polygons, 128,677 vertices -- 35.43m tall. Relatively poor state with foliage missing or diseased.
  4. Dying -- 38,097 polygons, 53,312 vertices -- 35.49m tall. Just hanging onto life and showing only unhealthy and diseased foliage.
  5. Dead -- 19,438 polygons, 24,735 vertices -- 35.38m tall. Showing only bare and broken branches and dead foliage.
  6. Uprooted -- 21,216 polygons, 36,903 vertices -- 16.15m tall. Dead plant fallen onto its side.
  7. Ancient -- 357,107 polygons, 532,167 vertices -- 42.74m tall. Very old plant, larger and considerably gnarled.
  8. Young -- 35,890 polygons, 51,862 vertices -- 31.65m tall. Smaller plant, some half way through its maturing cycle.
  9. Immature -- 5,582 polygons, 7,756 vertices -- 13.15m tall. Very small and young plant.
  10. Sapling -- 3,085 polygons, 4,253 vertices -- 5.79m tall. Recently sprouted.
  11. Lower Poly -- 25,841 polygons, 50,916 vertices -- 36.02m tall. Fewer polys to save system resources. For mid or distant renders. Standard model included, remainder models upon request (no charge).
  12. Higher Poly -- 186,626 polygons, 259,678 vertices -- 36.02m tall. More polys for greater detail. For close-up renders. Standard model included, remainder models upon request (no charge).

Re-meshing and any reasonable modification available upon request. No charge to existing customers of the product.

The textures included are mainly 4k (4096x4096); additional texture sizes of medium 2k, small 1k, and tiny <1k textures can also be downloaded. Separated alpha maps can be download as well.

EVERYPlant has a mission ... which is to model every plant species in the world (plus some extinct, fantasy and sci-fi variations as well)! Okay, maybe not every plant, perhaps just the identifiably different species which have at least a common name!
