Larrea Tridentata: Cresote Bush Larrea Tridentata is a flowering plant native to the Mojave, Sonoran, and Chihuahuan deserts. It is an evergreen shrub growing from 3-10 ft tall, with yellow flowers that produce a unique fragrance some equate to the smell of fresh rain. Jackrabbits, Desert Iguanas, Arabian Camels, and Kangaroo rats eat the leaves and seeds of the Cresote Bush. Cresote bushes have a strikingly long lifetime- the King Clone cresote ring is one of the oldest living organisms on earth, estimated to have lived for 11,700 years in the central Mojave. It has long been used in traditional medicine by native Americans to treat STD's, tuberculosis, menstrual cramps, and snakebites, and it is still commonly used in Mexico as an herbal supplement.
