The Bren gun carrier was also known as the universal carrier because of the multitude of roles it performed during World War II. Over 113000 were produced during the period from 1934 to 1960. They were built in England, the USA, Canada and Australia. The US-made T16 version was only slightly different. The carrier served in all the Allied forces in almost all theatres of war.
