The sculptor Patricia Roach works primarily in cast bronze, creating anthropomorphic pieces that evoke the evolutionary process. Each work appears to be in transition, exploding from the inside out and becoming vestigial remnants moving toward extinction or passing on to higher incarnations. Roach’s sculptures often begin with a thought, a vision or an object that catches her attention. From there, a form created from oil clay starts to evolve before it’s molded and cast in bronze through the age-old lost-wax method, then hand-finished and patinated. Comprising sculptural vessels and lighting fixtures, the creations are otherworldly, blending art and function while inspiring dialogue around the permanence of bronze.
