In the second half of the 19th century, roofline maquettes were typically created to demonstrate the ability of the craftsman. The original, of which our scaled roofline model is a reproduction, may have been the prototype for a French Second Empire roof during the reign of Napoleon III, an era when much of Paris was being reconstructed to conform to Haussmann's grand plan.
