Pierre Folie for Jacques Charpentier, pair of 'Chauffeuse' lounge chairs, suede, stainless steel, France, circa 1973
Throughout the sixties and seventies, French designers experimented with the elasticity of stainless steel, among others Michel Boyer, Francois Monnet, Xavier Féal, Maria Pergay, and Pierre Folie. This chair is a prime example of that. Designed with the right amount of tension, this lounge chair features a buttery-shaped construction of curved steel sheets. The seat is covered with beige suede with patina all over, contributing to the authentic look of the chair. Overall, an elegant pair of chairs while maintaining a modern look.
