The history of the city has more than two thousand years, during which it was captured by the Greeks, Romans and Ottomans. Frescoes from the 13th century have been preserved in the medieval Boyana Church. In the rotunda of St. George, built by the Romans in the 4th century, Turkish decor of the 10th century has been preserved
