This decorative accessory can be used in various interior projects.But the main purpose of modeling this piece is for CNC machine production.

I modeled this piece using a reference picture. I made the low-poly model in Autodesk Maya. Then for the details on the leaves, I used Zbrush.

It is a hundred percent practical to be made out of wood, stone, etc, or even 3D printing.

If you are using a 3D printer, the easiest way is to print it as it is shown on the render which is vertical. This would eliminate the need for additional supports. If you decide to do it horizontally, don't forget to use supports in appropriate places to prevent deformation during the printing process.

Now if you are a CNC milling user and your material of choice is wood, the best way to do it is by using a 4-axis CNC machine. Although, in this particular model you should try to machine it 4-axis simultaneously for achieving the optimum results! On the other hand, if you don't have a rotary axis then you need to fix the workpiece on the machine table and machine it in several index positions. You would need to machine it in 4 sections with 90° divisions. If you use a tapered spherical tool ( also known as a carving tool CNC machine ), then you can machine this model in only one operation without the need for a separate roughing pass.

Also, it is worth knowing that if you have a lathe / turning machine for wood then you can machine almost 90% of this workpiece on that machine within minutes and then use a milling machine to machine the carved part which improves productivity a lot. There are some machines available on the market that can do both turning and milling on the same machine and that would eliminate the need to use a second machine for just the milling part.

And lastly, if the material is stone or glass, you can use electroplated tapered spherical tools to carve this model, and don't forget to use plenty of proper coolant on the tool. It's best that you do a separate roughing procedure for this model using a bigger tool or disk, and then finish it with a smaller tool.
