Riftia pachyptila, also known as giant tube worms or Riftia tube worms, are tubeworm species that inhabit the vicinity of hydrothermal vents on the seafloor, especially in the East Pacific Rise. Their bodies are protected by a tube made of chitin and minerals, which can reach several meters in length. These worms are known for their mutualistic symbiosis with chemosynthetic bacteria housed within them, primarily in a structure called the trophosome. These bacteria convert chemical compounds such as hydrogen sulfide into usable energy, which the worm uses as its primary nutrition source. Chemosynthesis is crucial for their survival in environments where sunlight is scarce or absent.Riftia pachyptila has anatomy adapted to its life in extreme environments, with highly vascularized red gills that extend from its tube to absorb nutrients produced by the symbiotic bacteria. These worms are fascinating examples of adaptation to extreme conditions in the deep-sea environment. In this post we provide three diferent posed models and one without pose for your projects. Ideal for deep sea scenes.
