Description

Hayabune were fast, medium size Japanese warships of the 16th and 17th century used during the Sengoku period of Japan, when samurai warlords vied for supremacy of the country. Those who occupied the coasts built vast coastal navies of several hundreds of ships. The most common and fastest of these ships were called Hayabune, which was used as reconnaissance, transport and patrol vessels. These fast ships were equipped with oars and sails, side planks to protect archers and arquebusiers, and were employed by less wealthy samurai to protect their coast and ports.
