DESCRIPTION

This model is excellent for video animation work!

The Essex class was a class of aircraft carriers of the United States Navy, which constituted the 20th century's most numerous class of capital ships with 24 vessels built in both short-hull (Essex Class) and long-hull (Ticonderoga Class) versions.

This model is built generally in approximate dimension and includes a lot of detail. It comes fully textured with all materials and textures and is available in many formats. It is built in the WWII configuration with very detailed and animateable 40MM anti- aircraft guns, 20 mm anti-aircraft guns, and four twin mounted 5” 38 caliber guns in turrets. It has radar and radio antenna built and the radar antenna are animated. The screws and rudder are also animatable. Elevators can be raised and lowered. These models render very well and look very realistic using good animation and rendering technique. Designed to carry a larger air group Essex was over sixty feet longer amd ten feet wider in beam, and more than a third heavier than the previous Class Carriers. Machinery arrangement and armor protection was greatly improved from previous designs. In fact, during the WWII, none of the Essex-class carriers were lost and two, USS Franklin (CV-13) and USS Bunker Hill (CV-17), came home under their own power even after receiving extremely heavy damage and were successfully repaired.

Some ships in the class would serve until well after the end of the Vietnam War as the class was retired by newer build classes. Saratoga would serve the US Navy until the 1980s.
