The Saro Princess flying boat was truly the last of her kind, a giant by any scale , though smaller thanthe Spruce Goose she was 30,000 lbs heavier and was flown regularly in her trail stage until being broken up in the early 1960.she was powered by no less than 10 turboprops rated at 3500 ehp each.As a young boy it was my privilege to see her in Southampton before her ill demise. I would like to add that the existence of such large flying boats may prove more profitable than the pointless and environmentally damaging effects of building new runways . after all were not going to run out of water round my island soon
