3D Challenge - Female Characters
With the growing number of 3D applications like VR and AR, we are seeing an increased demand for female-friendly models of women. Nevertheless, many female character models are still oversexualized (come on, female armor does not improve by becoming skimpier!). This makes finding a suitable model for realistic and female-friendly representation needlessly difficult, and is one of the many reasons why women are discouraged from entering game development, VR, and 3D modeling.
These are the reasons why we are partnering up with active members from Women in VR/AR to bring more awareness of how women are represented in the 3D industry, and are calling on all designers to create and upload more female characters to CGTrader. Our great partners at Allegorithmic, Marmoset, Quixel, Cebas, 3D-Coat, and FoxRenderfarm are also supporting this change and are helping us bring you a new 3D Challenge: Female Characters. Great rewards, like software licenses and rendering credits, are waiting for designers who create superb female character models!
The Female Character challenge is open to all designers, no matter their field: both high poly and low poly models can enter the competition.
Submit your female model to the corresponding category:
- Realistic character (regular women, historical figures, girls, etc., representing various professions, including everyday people)
- Imaginary character (sci-fi, cartoon, fantasy, stylized, etc.)
Submissions deemed to be adult content are not eligible to participate in the contest.
Share your submissions to the challenge and other favorite 3D models of females on social media by adding #womenin3D #cgwoman and help us bring more awareness and inclusiveness to the 3D world! We will feature tagged models on our challenge model collections on social media and CGTrader’s blog!
If the model is created with Cebas software, you are also more than welcome to send your models to 3dgallery@cebas.com for additional exposure.

In order to qualify for the prize winnings, you must agree to terms & conditions.
Things you must know
- The Female character challenge will run from the 13th of February to the 15th of May.
- There is no polygon limit, therefore both high poly and low poly models can compete for the prizes.
- Submissions deemed to be adult content are not eligible to participate in the contest.
- Cool renderings are optional but we will definitely consider the presentation of the model when judging.
- Only 3D models uploaded during the period from the 13th of February to the 15th of May will be treated as valid entries.
- Designs uploaded to the gallery are not treated as valid entries.
- Upon joining this challenge, you agree that your rendering scene might be used by sponsors for marketing (
non commercial !) purposes. - The challenge is open to everyone, including teams, legal entities and people from all over the world.
- You can submit as many entries as you want.
- Only models that do not contradict 3D-Coat’s voice will qualify for the prize provided by 3D-Coat.
- Participating in the challenge and uploading 3D models to CGTrader platform is free of charge.
- All the entries must be original and not derivable.
- Employees and relatives of CGTrader and sponsor teams are not allowed to participate in this challenge.
- Any existing taxes or duties must be paid by the winner. CGTrader is not responsible for any illegal actions taken by the prize winners.
- We are independent sheriffs of this challenge, so stick to the rules and don't do anything stupid.

The judging of the challenge is supervised by CGTrader staff. Winners will be chosen following the requirements below:

Our panel of judges is comprised of seasoned 3D professionals from CGTrader and our partners, Quixel, 3D-Coat, FOX Renderfarm, Cebas, Marmoset and Allegorithmic.
Our friend Neilda Pacquing, a member of Women in VR/AR will also be among the judges. She was the one who brought our attention to the issue, which is no surprise, as Neilda is an advocate for diversity and inclusion in the technology industry and is currently working on Self-Defense VR, an application that provides self-defense training for women.

Do I need to upload files or only images of my 3D design?
You need to upload files and images of your 3D design in order to participate in the challenge.
I don't want to put my entry model for sale. Do you have any suggestions?
Does
I don't want to lose copyrights on my model after it is sold.
There are General, Editorial and Custom licenses for you to choose under which you want to operate. Individuals or companies which bought your model can't use it for commercial purposes if it hasn't been changed. So no worries - you won't lose the copyright.
How can I participate in the challenge?
Design a 3D female character that suits the requirements and upload it to CGTrader.
What if I put the required tag on my already published 3D model on CGTrader - do you treat it as a valid entry?
No. Only 3D models uploaded in the period from the 13th of February to the 15th of May will be treated as valid entries.
Do free 3D models participate in the challenge?
Yes, absolutely. Sharing artwork is always appreciated in the community.
Can I enter with 3D models which participated in other challenges elsewhere?
Yes. There are no restrictions on publishing and selling your models elsewhere.
Do price tags play any importance when entries are being judged?
No. But do not forget that the prices are always judged by the customers.
I want to participate in the challenge so I am going to delete my already uploaded models and upload them again to meet the "publishing period" requirement. Can I do that?
No. We are tracking every deleted and uploaded model, so it is useless to drive-through our requirements of the challenge
