Luthen Rael (originally Lear) was a former Imperial soldier who deserted after committing atrocities and later became a covert rebel spymaster. Operating under the guise of an antique dealer on Coruscant, he built a secret network alongside allies like Mon Mothma and Saw Gerrera. By 5 BBY, he orchestrated major operations such as the Aldhani heist, recruiting Cassian Andor and expanding the rebellion. Rael became a key rebel leader hunted by the Empire under the codename Axis, making difficult, ruthless decisions, including sacrificing allies, to protect his network. He continued coordinating rebel groups and indirectly shaped the growing rebellion. Though he later died before seeing victory, his efforts helped lay the foundation for the Alliance that ultimately defeated the Galactic Empire.
