DESCRIPTION

Travelers Tower is a roughly 515ft (157m) tall skyscraper in Hartford, Connecticut. When it was completed in 1919, it was the tallest building in the world outside New York City and remained New England's tallest building for 45 years. The Travelers Tower is actually a building of multiple connecting phased developments, culminating in a block-long base topped with its signature tower. Each of its phases was designed by architect Donn Barber in the neoclassical style.

NOTES:

  • Some sleuthing skyscraper buffs may notice the height of the model (listed above) is a few feet shorter than its official height of 527ft (161m). Heights of skyscrapers are notoriously misreported. I may be incorrect, but my best estimates based on numerous photographs and Google Earth's photogrammetry of the building, I consistently was measuring the building to be around 513-515ft (156-157m) to the tip of its spire. A minor detail, but wanted to disclose this nonetheless.
  • At some point a bridge to a nearby building was built over the east entrance to the building, obscuring the original design. I didn't find any photographs of this element, so I improvised an entrance that might fit with the overall design.
