Construction began in 72 AD, commissioned by Emperor Vespasian, and was completed by his son Titus in 80 AD. As the largest elliptical amphitheater in ancient Rome, it has a long axis of 188 meters, a short axis of 156 meters, and a height of 57 meters, accommodating 50,000 to 90,000 spectators. The Colosseum's exterior is decorated with columns of the Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian orders. It was used for gladiatorial combat, gladiatorial games, and naval performances, and is a symbol of power and entertainment in the Roman Empire.
