The Via57 Chair is a sculptural lounge chair that bridges architecture and furniture design. Conceived for Fritz Hansen, the chair draws direct inspiration from the geometry of the VIA 57 WEST building in New York City, a bold tetrahedral residential structure designed by Bjarke Ingels Group. Its distinctive form—with angled lines and inviting upholstered surfaces—echoes the building’s design language while offering a comfortable seating experience.

Designed in 2016 by Ingels alongside Lars Holme Larsen and Jens Martin Skibsted of KiBiSi, the Via57 Chair combines aesthetic innovation with tactile comfort. The chair’s shell is upholstered over a frame of molded polyurethane foam with varying densities, resulting in a seat that feels both soft and supportive. The four solid oak legs provide a warm contrast to the upholstery and allow the chair to almost float above the floor, adding visual lightness to its bold silhouette.
