DESCRIPTION

This is a project a friend and I came up with, it is a modified version of Robohand. Robohand is an opensource prosthetic hand for people with ABS and wrist movement. This device is designed to work for people without wrist movement who cannot use Robohand. These are the mechanical parts that would be 3D printed but there would also be quite a few electronic components. It would be printed in sections and then assembled. The plan is use a Muscle Sensor V3 created by Advancer Technologies to monitor electrical impulses of muscles in the forearm that would control the hand if it was a real hand. The information gathered would be transferred to an arduino micro controller which would control the hand itself with a stepper or servo motor. On top of that the fingertips of the prosthetic fingers would have a small analog pressure sensor. The arduino would then take these numbers and control the intensity of a vibrating motor, attached to the arm, based upon the force. This would give the user a sensation comparable to touch. The design needs a lot of work and unfortunately we don't have a 3D printer to build prototypes. If we were to win this challenge and get a 3D printer we could learn a lot by building the hand, but at the same time we could possibly help people who need it.
