DIY & Finishing:
After printing out your raw print, I recommend priming it with automotive car primer and sanding it. Repeat this as needed to get the desired to get the result. Have a look at Punished Props videos on YouTube for a better explanation with a demonstration ( link: https://youtu.be/pnqntteQx80 )Start with coarser grit sandpaper, and work your way down to finer grits. Sometimes I use wet-and-dry paper to get a really smooth (and sometimes shiny) finish. It really all depends on the result you want.
You can either use the 3d print itself, or make a silicone rubber mould and cast it in resin.
To get a metallic or chrome finish, I've seen Alclad II chrome airbrush paint recommended the most - and from what I've seen, it has the best results of all the method I've looked at so far. I've yet to try this for myself, but I suggest you look into this paint because I think you'll like the results.
Whatever method you use to decorate your 3d print, the finish might wear off. My dad likes to use varnish for boats because they're designed to be hard-wearing. I haven't tested this but I plan to look into it.
