Summary
Needed a spool holder for my printer and iliis's looked awesome. This derivative includes a few tweaks and notes that I used to make printing and assembly easier as well as a parametric spool holder created in OpenSCAD.
Instructions
The spool currently in my holder has a diameter of 16.5cm and a depth of 9.5cm and as such the following measurements have been based around that.
Parts:
M8 Rod (156cm)
M8 Nuts x 26
608 Bearings x 2
- Print Spool.stl
- Update variables in Holder.scad, export STL and print or alternatively print Holder.stl which includes a 8mm diameter spindle hole and 33mm spool shaft.
- Start by assembling the two A-Frames as shown in picture using a 20cm section of rod for the base and 2 x 15cm sections of rod for the diagonals. I found that using four spare rods to hold the frame corners together made it easier to align the holders.
- Replace the two length-wise temporary supports with 2 x 20cm sections of threaded rod.
- Replace the two width-wise temporary supports with 2 x 20cm sections of threaded rod.
- Screw a 16cm section of threaded rod through the left holder, spool and right holder.
- Place 2 x bearings onto spindle shaft and drop into their slots on the frame.
- Feed end of filament through holder and alight at 90 degrees to frame to help prevent spool from rolling like mad.
