The name Flamberge comes from the French word 'flamboyant', meaning 'flame-shaped'. It is characterized by a blade that undulates like flames, which allows it to open wounds wide. There is a theory that it was created with reference to the single-handed sword Flamberg. Although it is a sword with very high killing power, the undulating blade is also beautiful in appearance, so it was later used for ceremonial purposes. The 'Poussbert' used by Renaud de Montauban, a hero in French chivalric literature, is an Italian translation of Flamberge.
