Claymore, a synonym for a two-handed sword, means ‘giant sword’ in Gaelic. It was frequently used by warriors from the Highland region of northern Scotland, who were renowned for their bravery. The longest one is 2m long, and the hilt is made very long to make it easy to swing. Another feature is that there is a ring decoration at the end of the blade that resembles a four-leaf clover. Because northern Scotland was a poor, mountainous region, mercenary work developed as an industry. In modern times, as firearms began to be used on the battlefield, saber-type one-handed swords with the same name also appeared.
