This is our new airless basketball model made for the Fiberology FiberFlex 30D filament. This filament has the best bounce and durability out of all of the airless basketballs/airless basketball filaments we have tested (so far). The big pros to using this filament are 1) best bounce and durability we have tested, 2) very affordable considering the bounce you get, and 3) it was relatively easy to print with. There are some definite cons to using this filament – 1) the filament is REALLY squishy, which helps maintain durability, but makes it feel less like a real basketball, 2) each basketball I have printed has had a small “dead spot” (a spot on the ball that does not bounce as good as the rest). Using a 0.6mm nozzle seems to make it smaller, but I couldn’t print one without it, and 3) the recommended print speed is less than 35 mm/s, which means it takes a very long time to print a full-sized basketball.I always recommend drying the filament for a few hours before printing with it (I usually dry at 50C for about 4 – 6 hours), and I always put a good layer of printer bed glue before printing for both adhesion and as a release agent when the print is done. I will list the printer settings and helpful links below:
