Viking runes are ancient symbols that the Vikings used as part of their alphabet and as divination tools. They are alphabetic characters that originated about 2,000 years ago and were used in Late Antiquity and the Middle Ages.Viking runes were used to write Germanic languages in Scandinavia, the British Isles, and parts of Central and Eastern Europe. They were carved into stone or wood and consisted of 24 pieces divided into three groups of 8 runes, each with a Germanic symbol or letter carved into it.Viking runes had deeper meanings than just letters, and were considered sacred marks. In mythology, the runes were said to have come from the Well of Urd, one of the three wells beneath Yggdrasil, the world tree.
