The Fool

The Fool is a card that contains a lot of youthful, young energy. It's about new beginnings and journeys. Bring only what you need, and life will take you where you need to go. The Fool steps into the future without worrying about what's left behind.

This makes perfect sense for Sera, who is young and carefree, and her story is about her starting something new and finding her way. She has never truly belonged anywhere, and by beginning this journey, she will find herself and the life she was always meant to lead.

Symbolism: A straightforward card. Sera stands on the roof of the tavern in Skyhold, angled forward, ready to move into the future. In her hand is her bow; she has left everything else behind.

The Magician

At the beginning of the major arcana, The Magician is also a card of new beginnings. The link between the physical and spiritual worlds, The Magician is about manifesting, turning your thoughts and energies into tangible things.

Dorian is all about potential, both his own and Tevinter's. By the end of Tresspasser, his thoughts are no longer just thoughts; he has made them tangible. He will create change.

Symbolism: Dorian's robes are white, symbolizing purity, and his book is red, symbolizing knowledge and passion. The iconography of his house, the Tevinter serpent, surrounds him and details his clothing. His house is what built him. From his fingers flows an infinity sign, showing his limitless potential.

The High Priestess

The High Priestess is a strong feminine archetype. Otherworldly and intelligent, she tells you to listen to your intuition. She is a mediator between worlds and can represent the duality of the physical and the spiritual. This is a good career card and can represent a mentor in your life.

Vivienne fits this archetype to a T. She is the mentor of feminine energy, especially to an Inquisitor mage, and deals with knowledge and self-confidence. She perfectly represents duality. A low-born mage who holds a powerful position at court.

Symbolism: Vivienne holds a cup, the suit of emotions and intuition. She walks a delicate line; the staff in her hand symbolizes her power, but it turns into a serpent, ready to strike if not handled correctly. Behind her hand are a square and a circle, representing the domains she has power over: heaven and earth.

The Empress

The Empress is another feminine archetype. Beauty, good fortune, and nurturing are represented in this image. She will uplift you and your ideas and encourage you to be kind to yourself. You will succeed.

This is an interesting choice, and if it had been purely a Cassandra card, Iird questioned it. But this is an image of the Divine Victoria. As a Divine, she works to repair relationships and erase wrongs on all sides. Of all the Divines, she is the nurturer, seeking to bring peace and goodness back to the world.

Symbolism: In her left hand, Victoria holds her sword, and in her right, her scepter. She is Divine and a warrior; together, they make her strong. Behind her head is a burst of sunlight, showing her divine nature. There are eyes in her armor and halo. She still seeks the truth. This is a very unusual representation of The Empress.

The Emperor

The Emperor is the card of leadership and authority. This is the traditional card of the father and the things that paternal energy brings into your life. Rules, order, systems. The Emperor is rational and acts for the greater good.

Celene is not a woman to be underestimated. Beneath the fine exterior of a diplomat is a person who rules with an iron fist. Like The Emperor, she is ambitious and the head of a powerful kingdom. Without her, Orlais falls into chaos.

Symbolism: Celene stands alone. She is a singular power, and her royal blue cloak is her armor. Her face is cold and stoic. She holds a scepter with a mask, symbolizing the Orlesian people under her rule.

The Hierophant

The Hierophant is the card of tradition and is the emotional counterpart to the High Priestess. It is the card of rituals and respect for the past, of the paths walked by those before you. The Hierophant imparts wisdom and emphasizes the importance of what came before.

An interesting card for Solas. He is the card of the elven apostate, not the rebel god. As a counterpart to Vivienne, Solas is also a mentor character. He teaches that you must learn from the past to shape the future.

Symbolism: A very elven card. Serene, Solas is found in nature. This is their home, their roots. The valleys are the traditional home of the elves...right? A wolf is at their side, making eye contact with the spectator. The Dram Wolf is looking on.

The Lovers

Harmony, communication, and choices. This is a card of empowerment. Through trust and unity, we grow stronger. This is also the card that encourages you to make choices to find what makes you happy. Let go of tradition and what is acceptable if you find something that lights a fire within you.

Varric and the representation of the woman he loves. It is through her spirit that Varric grows strong. Although they cannot be together, he has chosen her, and his love never wavers.

Symbolism: Varric wields Bianca, pointing directly at the viewer, daring you to say something. His open shirt draws your gaze to his chest, where his heart lies. He smiles, confident in his choices.

The Chariot

A card of action, The Chariot calls you to stand tall and steer toward what you want. Be confident and stay focused, and you will achieve your goals. Fortune favors the bold. Do not be afraid of ambition and aggression.

This is Doriania's romantic card, and it shows a man entering his own. He is a man of passion and ambition, who will steer his chariot exactly where he wants it to go.

Symbolism: The only Dorianials card with an open face, he looks you in the eye without shame. In his hands are an orchid and a snake, the symbol of Tevinter, bringing reform to the place he loves. The Inquisitors' hand caresses his chest, Doriania's birthright tangled in his fingers. I couldn't have done this without you.
