Obelix and his trusty pal Dogmatix are the best friends of Asterix the Gaul, a popular comic book character created by René Goscinny (stories) and Albert Uderzo (illustrations) in the 1960s and is part of the French-Belgium style.

The comics take place in Roman occupied Gaul (early France) where Asterix and his friends are the last village to hold out against the Romans with the help of their druid's magic strength potion. Asterix and his friends go on many adventures and over the years, with the writing and illustrating changing hands, Asterix stories have reached many dozens of volumes.
