DESCRIPTION

Son Goku, better known simply as Goku, whose birth name is Kakarotto, is the protagonist of the Dragon Ball franchise, created by Akira Toriyama. His first appearance was in the first chapter of the Dragon Ball manga, titled Bulma and Son Goku, published in the Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine on December 3, 1984. Goku is inspired by a character with the same name, Wukong in Mandarin and Son Goku in Japanese, the main character of the Chinese novel Journey to the West. However, Toriyama changed some of his characteristics to be more original.

As the central protagonist of the franchise, Son Goku appears in all of the manga, anime, films, OVAs and video games in the series. Due to the international popularity of the franchise, Goku has become one of the most well-known anime and manga characters in the world.
